1971 Boss 351

THE 1971 BOSS MUSTANG is the last Boss Mustang and is also considered to be one of the best.  Magazine testers reported ¼ mile times in the mid-13 second range and would corner at the same rate as the Boss 302. This was quite a feat since the Boss 302 cornered at .72 g’s and the 71 Boss weighed 300 lbs more. The newer body style of the '71 Boss is becoming more accepted and exciting every year.  There were only 1806 Boss 351’s made and they are extremely hard to find.

In 1970 there were rumors that both NASCAR and NHRA were planning to down size their engines to 6 liter instead of 7 liter. With the terrific Cleveland heads and the great port sizes the 351 looked like the perfect engine for NASCAR AND NHRA. Ford was set to build a race engine and a street engine.  The street engine was done in such a way that had never happened before.  The Boss street engine was unique it that it was made entirely  within the Special Engine Group. The design, development testing and the release of the engine was entirely done at KAR KRAFT. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED!!  Needless to say this was a very special engine.

The production facility to produce the engines actually agreed to add special enhancements to the production line on a SUNDAY basis only and then change these items back on Monday.

Here is your chance to buy one of the most collectable Ford muscle cars of all time at an extremely good price. This is not a perfect car by any means but it has had a great deal of money spent on it mechanically.  I have the Marti Report on it and it was originally Grabber Blue not Red. In my opinion Grabber Blue is one of the best colors on these '71 Boss’s. The body on the car is in very good shape with a small amount of rust in both doors in the normal place. It also has some minor rust behind the doors.  Everywhere else on the car including the floors is in very good shape.  Please have a knowledgeable person come and look at the car if you wish.  The gentleman that purchased the Boss knew what it was, but was mainly interested in how fast it was and not the collectability of the car. He was going to put a much larger motor in the car, but the engine builder told him it was the original block and he should obviously keep it and that he could also build a very strong motor because of how well the Boss 351 engine was designed.  During the rebuild a great number of the '71 Boss parts disappeared. Here are the engine parts that I know are missing.   Air – cleaner and snorkel, carb, distributor, intake and exhaust manifolds.  This is not a car that needs a great deal of money spent on the drive train to make it run well.  This Boss is VERY FAST RIGHT NOW and has had a great deal of money spent on the front suspension also. It has also just had an alignment done to it and has a very nice set of  tires on it and 4  brand new 15x7 magnums, center caps and lug nuts.  The paint is not the original color and is not that good. It is what you would call a 10 footer.  You would have a great number of options with this car.  You could have fun with it and drive it just as it is. Drive the car as it is now and start looking for good deals on the 71 Boss parts that are missing. There is no better time to find parts at a good price than when you are not in a hurry to buy them. These parts are very rare BUT, ALSO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEM ALSO HAVE A SMALL MARKET TO SELL TO.  You could paint the car back to its original color and do some interior work to it.  Also, you could find what I call the necessary pieces such as the distributor,  air-cleaner and snorkel  and detail the car for shows and take it to almost any show you wished and nobody would know that you did not have the original carb or exhaust manifolds unless you told them.   At that time you are in a great position because you can take your time and find the carb and or the exhaust manifolds.  I am not sure how many people who are asking the big money for these cars even have these original items.  This Boss is one of those cars that I will get calls for years from people telling me how they should have purchased this car when they had the chance.  If you cannot afford the amount of money that people are asking for these nice Boss 351’s, then here  is your chance to get one of these very rare Boss Mustangs that is in very good condition. Remember these '71’s are the fastest Boss Mustangs ever made including the Monster Boss 9 which were the LAST BOSS MADE.
