1969 MACH 1 SUPER COBRA-JET

I hope you can see by the number of photos and quality of the photos how nice this car actually is. These are incredibly rare cars and certainly one of the fastest cars built in the 60’s. They would give any muscle car on the street a great race and probably 90% of the time win the race. When the COBRA-JET team first raced at the winter nationals, they totally dominated everyone. The final race came down between two COBRA-JETS.    THAT IS HOW FAST THEY ARE!!!!! 

There are not many of these cars around and according to the Marti Report only 28 were painted this beautiful color of Winter Blue with a close-ratio transmission and the Super Cobra Jet Engine. Out of these 28 SCJ only 19 had the V-Code 3:91 Traction-LOK. Please note that on the Statistical Report that only 2 of these cars were equipped with Am-FM radio and only ONE had tinted glass. That one car is this Mach One Super Cobra Jet. Read the Deluxe Report and Statistical Report yourself by clicking on the thumbnails and you can magnify both reports so you can read them easily. There was not much of an attempt to trace the history of the car as far as the number of owners, etc. The gentleman that I am selling the car for said he purchased it out of New Mexico (great climate for a car!). To summarize, the car was originally a California car that then went to New Mexico then came to Texas.

The maim emphasis when this car was being purchased was the body being in great shape. The only major issue that was done to the body during restoration according to the owner was the replacement of one of the rear quarters. Evidently the quarter panel was damaged some how and was poorly repaired. The restoration body shop installed a new quarter panel in such a way that you could not tell anything was done to the quarter. One thing that most people forget about Classic Cars is that at one time they were just considered used cars of very little value. In many instances very poor work and very little money was paid to do the body shops because these classics were cars that at the time were not worth spending much money on.   

The SCJ’S were not just Cobra-Jets that had an oil cooler added to them. Ford wanted to make sure that these BAD BOY’S would stay together so they made the internals much stronger than the regular Cobra-Jets. The normal Cobra-Jets were much stronger than the regular 428 engine. So the SCJ’S were very STRONG INDEED. The only gear ratio you could get in one of these Monsters in was a V code 3:91  or a W code 4:30. This particular Mach  came with a 3:91 rear end. During the restoration it was decided to change the rear gear to a 3:50 Traction-loc gear to make it so it would be able to drive on the highway easily but still have plenty of power to accelerate quickly should the NEED FOR SPEED arise. 

I have a spread sheet that shows how much money was put into this rotisserie restoration. It amounted to     $55,963.65. As you can see by the pictures of the car on the rotisserie, the car was taken as far apart as you can take one. You  can see by the pictures the results are fantastic. Please compare the rarity, quality and money put into this car if you are looking for something to be proud of. 

Please note the important figures on this report are the following: ONLY 5853 428 Cobra Jets were built with close ratio transmission 4-speed; 154 were painted that fantastic looking and rare White Blue; 28 had the Super Cobra Jet Motor; 19 had the 3:91 Traction-LOK rear-end.
