1965 Ford Mustang Fastback
This particular car is one of the earliest fastbacks that we have ever encountered. It was built in August 1964 as one of the first fastbacks off the line at the Ford plant in San Jose, CA and was sent to Los Angeles (DSO 71). It also has more equipment on it that any other car we have ever seen. Please notice all the extra options such as the compass, console, tissue dispenser, light for the horse in the grill, A/C, Power Steering, Proper Rally Pac, AM/FM Satellite radio, clock, remote trunk release, rear exit GT exhaust, Day/Night Mirror, GT lights and locking shifter mechanism. I have never seen one of these before. This car has also had the carb updated to a 4 bbl. carb and intake and a very nice Original Deluxe steering wheel. These original deluxe steering wheels are very, very, expensive and are extremely hard to find. The intake is a correctly date coded intake with August of 64 on it and the carb is a correct Autolite 4100 carb. Obviously, there was no expense spared when this car was restored. The floors and body on this car are outstanding and original. This car drives wonderfully well at 70 mph with the A/C on and listening to the Beach Boys. Please notice how nicely the engine compartment is detailed with chrome valve covers, air cleaner and oil pan. Torque Thrust D rims with BF Goodrich Radial TA’s were just installed. All you need to do on this very nice fastback is drive it and have some fun with it and take it to some shows and win some trophies.
Please notice also all the 64 ½ parts on the car such as the turned down corner lip of the hood that matches the beveling on the headlight bucket, the remote power steering reservoir, the hood bumpers had a recess Phillips screw holding it to secure the rubber, the brake light switch and the door latch mechanism matching the color of the interior. This fastback also came with the very early “A” stamped onto the driver’s side vent fresh air knob. Ford was in the process of phasing out these items but was not going to throw them away. As early 65 model cars came down the assembly line they received some of these items until Ford did not have any more of them.
In short, where can you find a car with all this equipment plus the power steering and power disc brakes and factory air conditioning? This is a great car with superb body and floors as you can see.
This car has just received an extremely nice and expensive paint job. The car was completely stripped down and the body shop was quite amazed to see that it has never been damaged and had NO rust on it. To say this is RARE is a huge understatement. Most cars that are 5 years old have had some sort of damage on them. When these cars were built they were built to rust. To find one with no rust is incredible.
