1959 Jaguar XK 150
The XK150’s replaced the XK140’s and were the first of these cars not to have a split windscreen.
They were available from 1957 to 1961. They were available in fixed head coupes, drop head coupes and roadster models. The standard engine was fitted with 2 SU carbs and had a horsepower rating of 210. The S engine was fitted with 3 Su carbs and had a rating of 250 horsepower. An S model was tested by Motor Trend magazine and had the following results. Top speed was 132 and 0 to 60 was 7.8 seconds. These figures were quite amazing at the time. Ferraris were about the only car that were capable of running these kind of speeds and they were about twice the price. This made the Jaguar quite a buy at the time and NOW they are also quite a buy compared to the comparable Ferrari or whatever. This was the first Jaguar that you could get 4-wheel disc brakes on although it was possible to special order a car without disc brakes!! It took Ferrari quite a few years to start running disc brakes on his race cars and as a result the Jaguars won Le Mans quite a few times!! It is very interesting to note that Jaguar won Le Mans 5 times in the 50’s. I attribute most of this to the fact that the Jag’s were running with the Dunlop disc brakes and Ferrari was not. The belief that Ferrari had at the time was if he had the better motor he would over come all other problems at the time. Obviously this did not work.
At the time Motor magazine did their test in 1959 of a fixed head coupe it was the fastest road test EVER done on a closed car!!!
Now that I have given you a bit of a history lesson on Jags let me tell you about this car.
I do not believe that anyone has come into my office and seen this car a not been totally impressed with the car. It is a car that makes quite a statement. While I was taking pics today I actually had a women stop her car and ask me to take her pic with the car. Of all the times that I have taken pics of different cars this is the first time that this has happened. The lines of this car are very sexy and are high lighted by those beautiful Borrani wire wheels that adorn the car. This car drives wonderfully well and also is very easy to drive. Whether you plan on taking it to car shows or just enjoying it at home by your self it is a very nice automobile to own. Please do not hesitate to give me a call on this car and I will be glad to answer any questions that you might have
I have just gone to the data base of these cars and if I am reading it correctly there were only 104 of these cars made. Makes you wonder how many are actually left doesn’t it??
